So we finally flew into Rio worry free. We got husseled as soon as we touched down in Brasilian soil. We got charged 45 Real per person for the cab ride into Leblon ( 1hr cab ride from the airport). We should have been charged that for the entire ride, not per person....Dooooh.
Our roomates 2 Australian brother on vacation. 1 Brasilian ( Paulista ) and 1 Italian. All good guys with great stories. more to them in a minute. So we walk 3 miles and about 2 hrs down the famous beaches of Leblon, Imapnaema and finally Coppacobbana to get to a travel agencey to buy the tix for our fligth 2hr flight to Salvador de Bahia mind you i am going on about 26 hrs of no sleep. Cmon a 6 foot 2 guy in between 2 other people on a small crammed plane. Sleepin is not gonna happen. So we sit down and an older brasilian gentlman takes care of us. After about 45 min of arraging the days and time of your flight, he then proceeds to tell me its cash only. DOOOOH. So anther 2 hr walk back home. Not complaing nice walk, nice exerice, nice tan, but still a two hr walk with the sun beating down on you. Oh did I fail to mention that since we are in the southern hemisphere (hence winter time) it get dark here at 5 pm. WTF. Ok FML we failed to look at the minor issu but wtf i would take this winter any day over a chicago winter. So our day was pretty much over. Went and got some dinner with juan. He took a nap and i decided it would be a nice evening for a run down the beaches of leblon, impanema, anc cobacabban. So after the wonderful 5.5 mile/ 1hr run i as exhausasted , Juan and i walk around the city and covered a lot of interesting topics, ranging from books, travels, and life ambitions. We preceded to fall asleep in 1pm in Rio de Janerio our first night. Not the begining i was hoping for, but you roll with the punches. That endds day 1. peace.
